Elizabeth has finally left Creswick, the town she despises, and is being taken by her cocky and charismatic boyfriend Noah to meet his 'mentor', Leo, at his house on the coast.
After an uncomfortable first night, Elizabeth wakes the next day for Noah to tell her they're returning to Creswick; Leo's sister, the local vicar, has been brutally murdered.
Elizabeth is distraught at having to go back to Creswick so soon after leaving, and under such awful circumstances, but she has no option but to agree.
Over the next week the mismatched trio spend their time eating, drinking, smoking, talking and seeing friends, and through rediscovering the town they all hated so much, they begin to discover things they never knew about themselves.
